Vision Statement We, the body of Christ, seek to serve the community, prepare for future generations, and build a legacy of faith and worship. Mission Statement Our mission is: • to commit to education to provide opportunities for spiritual development; • to present programs for youth and growing families; • to identify needs and provide services for the community; • to form partnerships with churches, businesses and/or city; and, thereby, accomplish our legacy of faith and worship. Our Roots Portsmouth United—as the church came to be known—is an inclusive, multi-racial and multi-cultural congregation in the Eastern Virginia Association of the Southern Conference, United Church of Christ. We seek to embrace and empower all people through the love and peace of God through Jesus Christ. The church was officially organized in October 1958—known then as The United Congregational Christian Church—and moved into its new building the following summer. A few years later, First Christian Church of downtown Portsmouth sold their property, and we merged with them to form one church family. Portsmouth United is presently located at 5900 Portsmouth Boulevard, in Portsmouth, Virginia.
